By Uinsin42 I have purchased Grey Larsen's and Fintan Vallely's Irish Flute tutors and found the latter by far the better of the two. It is much easier to read the straight forward written music (in my opinion) than to memorize the symbols representing Crans and Cuts ect. As for style or interpretation as to how a piece should be played appears to depend on what part of Ireland one is from and can be learned later.

Southern Rites is an original and provocative 12-year visual study of one community's struggle to confront longstanding issues of race and equality. In May 2009, the New York Times Magazine published a photo-essay by Gillian Laub entitled "A Prom Divided," which documented Georgia's Montgomery County High School's racially segregated prom rituals. Laub's photographs ignited a firestorm of national outrage and led the community to finally integrate. One year later, there was newfound hope--a historic campaign to elect the county's first African American sheriff. But the murder of a young black man--portrayed in Laub's earlier prom series--by a white town patriarch reopened old wounds.Through her intimate portraits and firsthand testimony, Laub reveals in vivid color the horror and humanity of these complex, intertwined narratives. The photographer's inimitable sensibility--it is the essence and emotional truth of the singular person in front of her lens that matters most--ensures that, however elevated the ideas and themes may be, her pictures remain studies of individuals; a chronicle of their courage in the face of injustice, of their suffering and redemption, possessing an unsettling power.Gillian Laub (born 1975) crafts striking personal portraits, whether she is photographing her own family in Mamaroneck, New York, or victims of violence in the Middle East. In May 2015, the documentary Southern Rites--Laub's directorial debut--will premiere on HBO, examining the aftermath of the publication of Laub's photographs of Montgomery County and her own role in the events.

Review Laub’s portraits of the people she met and the stories they told is an eye-opener for our “post-racial’ society and the dimension this recounting brings to the conversation is nuanced and real. (Molly Roberts Smithsonian.com)In addition to showcasing her nuanced photographs, [Southern Rites] uses artifacts, letters, transcripts, and narrative to further illuminate the story of a community rife with injustice, complicity, and occasionally some hope as well. (Elisa Albert Tablet)Laub’s intimate portraits...speak to pride, suffering, anger, and love. (Jan Gardner bostonglobe.com)Powerful images augmented with an informative and inherently fascinating commentary make "Gillian Laub: Southern Rites" a critically important contribution...Indeed, "Gillian Laub: Southern Rites" could well serve as a template for similar photographic studies of other American communities and social issues. (James A. Cox The Midwest Bookreview)Laub’s work also proffers a tantalizing hope: that through such American high schoolers, bedazzled in sequins and satin and dancing at their only recently integrated prom, true societal transformation and justice may come. (Laura Mallonee Hyperallergic)In Southern Rites, Laub has perceptively and empathetically portrayed the individuals behind the events in Mount Vernon. In turn, our understanding of these events becomes nuanced in a way that may be useful when considering the larger, enduring problem of racism in the U.S. Southern Rites isan important and timely documentary, demanding the viewer to look and listen in a way that lingers long after the gowns, tuxes, and corsages have been put away. (Hilary Reid Brooklyn Rail)Laub was able to photograph the 2011 and 2012 integrated proms at Montgomery County High, and the photos... trace the evolution of the iconic high school event in this corner of the South. (Hayley MacMillen Refinery29)Southern Rites...explores racial issues and tension that are deeply rooted in the area. (David Rosenberg Slate)

About the Author Gillian Laub's portraits have appeared in the "New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Time" and the "New Yorker". Laub graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a degree in Comparative Literature before studying photography at the International Center of Photography. She is represented by Bonni Benrubi Gallery, New York.

Black and white in color By Robin As the book is about segregation in the South the title is very apt and in the small town of Mount Vernon, Georgia things hardly seemed to have moved on from life as depicted in the 1967 film 'In the heat of the night'. Gillian Laub got involved in the town because Spin Magazine, in 2002, gave her an assignment to cover the racially segregated school proms. Though the school was integrated in 1971 the prom wasn't, one was tried in 1995 but only one white couple arrived among all the black faces. The Student Council had a referendum in 1996 and the integrated prom idea was completely defeated by blacks and whites. It took until 2010 to finally get this important event in the student life integrated, proms in previous years were private affairs organised and paid for by the students. As well as Spin the New York Times Magazine picked up the story for a May 21, 2009 edition and Laub again took the photos. There are fifty-eight by her in the book, mostly of the students getting ready, arriving and enjoying their respective proms. Several photos of individuals have their thoughts about the event and segregation as a text block next to their pictures.Though an interesting subject I though the book was rather spun out to fill the pages. Divided into several chapters with each starting on a spread with a left-hand black page and few lines of text on the right (so filling twenty pages). As well as the photos by Laub there are nineteen other photos and graphics: a spread from the school yearbook; a three page student essay from 1999; various studio portraits of students; a spread from the NY Times Magazine (but no mention of Spin photos) four black pages with white type of a conversation between police 911 operator and a local Mount Vernon man who killed a student one night; a spread of video clips showing a sheriff taking Laub's camera while she was in a car during 2011. Missing were shots of the school and street scenes of the town.If Laub's photos and the other visual material had been better organized with a tighter graphic presentation it could have pulled everything together for a worthwhile look at these disappearing Southern rites.

This dark triptych of stylistically diverse literary short stories - on the unifying theme of the occult and primitive religion, blending myth and mysticism and mystery - features three diverse protagonists: a tribal chief whose life depends on concealing signs of age, a debonair daemon suffering professional ennui in a staff training role without prospects, and a dystopian moon colonist on the run from unrequited love who is blackmailed into sham psychotherapy and drawn into a bloody labour dispute.

Savages: A Triptych, by Brendan Ball

Review Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' FavoriteSavages: A Triptych is a trilogy of interconnected short stories written by Brendan Ball. In Long Live the King, the aging leader of a tribe contemplates his inevitable fall from power and will sacrifice even those he cares about in his need to survive. The Deposition is a darkly comedic tale about dream states, and the alternative worlds one enters and sometimes doesn't exit while asleep. Lunar Seas presents a stark vision of the future where access to literature is regulated by bureaucrats and the corporate world keeps free citizens under strict control. The lunar colony is seen through the eyes of Roland, whose innocent obsession with a fellow passenger on public transport leads him to risk everything he has.Brendan Ball's short story trilogy, Savages: A Triptych, is dark, disturbing and deeply thought-provoking. The author's initial story had me mentally revisiting O'Neill's classic play, The Emperor Jones. As in that work, the tension and fear in this story is a palpable and pervading presence. The Deposition is a marvelous dark comedy, which reveals even more darkness as one reconsiders it. Lunar Seas builds beautifully from its predecessors. I quickly became involved in Roland's story and appreciated how Ball mingles the events that led up to Roland's exile with the account of his stay on the lunar colony. Roland's commuter romance with Azalea is inspired and will spark fragments of recognition and remembrance in anyone who's ever commuted to their workplace. The innocence and light of their relationship glow in these dark tales, and somehow brings hope through it all. Savages: A Triptych is highly recommended.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unique and unified storytelling By Joey Madia To begin, a definition: “Triptychs” are typically three-paneled paintings or a photograph series that explores a unified theme in different ways. The triptych of this collection is three short stories: “Long Live the King,” “The Deposition,” and “Lunar Seas.” Thematically, there could be several broad-based connections between the three stories, as they each cover a range of human emotions and relationships. Other reviewers have put forth their own theories. To me, the triptych here is unified as Past, Present, and Future explorations of what is most “savage” (read primitive, archetypal, low-vibrational) in Humankind’s relationships to its dark secrets as they are expressed in both our codified, societal Myths and the ones we individually construct. The cover design, by Keri Knutson, creates an initial unification of the stories by overlaying key elements from each on a macabre human skull. The chosen symbols could be used as a start, if the reader so chooses. The first story, “Long Live the King,” opens with a quote from James Frazer’s The Golden Bough, a large volume of comparative religion published in 1890 that includes case studies on the world-wide phenomena of tribal kings being ritually killed when they began to show signs of weakness, physically or in the mind. The story is written with a syntax that situates the reader firmly in the ancient world of ritual and myth, which makes for a challenging read (almost like trying to read the transcript of a dream-in-progress) but well worth the effort expended.Frazer’s book also examined rites of passage, which is another unifying element across this triptych. My biggest takeaway from “Long Live the King” is the idea that the kings of old were all too human in their signing on, knowing the cost, and then resisting the contract to be killed as the time drew near. It’s all too rare that this aspect of these tribal conditions is explored; the only other instance that comes to mind is an episode of Kolchak: The Night Stalker, from the mid-1970s, in an episode guest-starring Eric Estrada. The second story, “The Deposition,” is a fun read in the tradition of C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters, where Hell is situated as a bureaucratic nightmare where managers and case workers struggle to win souls of humans that are just clever enough to sometimes win. Ball’s story focuses on connection through the dream state, where various strategies are employed to keep the Dreamer from realizing it is a dream, or waking up. The story drips with the boredom and frustration of the average worker inherent in so much British writing and music, from Douglas Adams’s Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to The Police song “Synchronicity II.”The third story, set in the Future, is a dystopian tale of an off-Earth colony where education, relationships, and even one’s inclinations toward free thought are carefully controlled by an oligarchy of corporate/government interests even more intertwined than they are today. A little bit 1984, the film Equilibrium, Ayn Rand’s Anthem, and Rush’s 2112 concept album, this story evoked the clearest visual imagery for me. It is the stuff of which good film adaptations are made. It has elements of romance, rebellion, and a terrible aloneness made manifest in the main character. This is also the longest of the three stories, taking up half the book.As I have processed the stories, and further thought about the idea of the triptych, I have come to realize that the stories function like Russian nesting dolls, which accounts for them getting larger as they progress, because the Future contains the Past and the Present and the Present contains the Past, while the Past itself sits alone and often disconnected, distanced from us through its archaic language and rituals.Which is, of course, not the case at all, as this collection shows. In Savages, Ball has accomplished a great deal in its forty or so pages, not the least of which is showcasing his ability to write in a wide range of voices, each particularly suited to the position of Past/Present/Future and the needed tonal weight of the tale being told.If you consider each story carefully on its own, and then together as the triptych, you will find that, in all of the desperate darkness in which the characters of the stories reside, there is a speck of light, which, when followed deeply enough, becomes Hope.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A powerful compilation By Mack Moyer On the surface, the tales in Savages don’t seem to have much in common. Long Live The King is a sad story of an aging African chief ruling over a tribe wherein they slay their king at the first sign of old age. With the regal language, it can be a challenging read at first, but rewarding – and heartbreaking – in the end. Then Ball gives us The Deposition. Anyone who has ever had to sit in front of a disinterested boss on your first day of work can relate, although here Ball shows us the mundanity of demons haunting the dreams of a slumbering schlub. In Lunar Seas, Mr. Ball manages to weave an almost-love story, a futuristic labor struggle, and the mind numbing wellness babble you might hear at work every day – mandatory fitness trackers and nicotine screening tests come to mind – seamlessly into one satisfying short, while also giving us the wonderful image of drunk Russians driving moon buggies. These short stories, while distinct in tone, voice, and plot, share the futility and pointlessness of our lives. Whether it’s a king fighting his descent into middle age, a luckless worker bee stuck on a mining colony in outer space, or a demon smirking at his own wit just to get through another day in the bureaucracy, Ball’s tales examine this futility in all of its subtle horror, sadness, humor, and beauty.Aside from the stories themselves, Savages serves as a display of the versatility in Ball’s writing skills. Diverse as these stories are, Ball’s powerful voice comes through with each. Whenever I read a short story compilation I expect that at least one of the stories will be weaker than the rest, or just plain not fit the author’s style. Not so with Savages. Here, Ball shows off literary agility that most writers would kill for and all readers will enjoy.

After he reads it I hear him yelling downstairs MOM thanks for the book! It was totally cool. So with that said it must have been a great book for him. I know he constantly was reading his kindle. I received this book to review and give my honest opinion. Im my case it was my son's opinion. But He LOVED it!

Moira Fiorelli, an upper-middle class girl in post-war Edinburgh, yearns to become a mountaineer-an awkward choice at a time when there are very few women climbers. Entering this machismo universe, she encounters prejudice, not because she is of Italian descent, not even because she is a woman, but because she is an inveterate snob. On her route to her summits she faces the ups and downs of romance, falling precipitously and disastrously for the most unsuitable man possible.

By Amazon Customer If you’re Scottish, a climber and of a certain age you will have no problem identifying with the social and recreational context of the book and its central character Moira .For those who are none of the above, Mons Graupius is an eloquent and entertaining introduction to the somewhat occult world of climbing in the nineteen-fifties and sixties. With humour, wit and intelligence it captures the essence of the country and the climbing. With a wealth of historical, social and climbing references, both modern and ancient, it challenges the reader with as many questions as answers. It takes them into an environment that lies deeper than the crags and hills to which our heroine is drawn, and which was founded on social mores that are perhaps extinct in the modern age.Well worth a read.

The beguiling shifts in the narrative from the earthy to the erudite give the writing a distinctive voice, characterised by sustained wry humour which kept me chuckling from page to page. These are juxtaposed with lyrical descriptive passages which transport the reader to magical - sometimes nerve-tingling - sojourns in the high and wild places of the Scottish mountains and the Alps. All of this is part of an interwoven and perceptive memoir of the manners and mores of life in Scotland in general and its capital Edinburgh in particular, at a point in time - with again the humour caricaturing some character types and the fond rivalries as between Edinburgh and Glasgow, highlands and lowlands - and even managing to bring a light touch to the sometimes disfiguring sectarian religious divide which many Scots know only too well. Well worth reading, especially for lovers of Scotland, Edinburgh, and the hills and mountains.

One is drawn into something of a love/hate relationship with the heroine who is surrounded by a host of complex characters, all finely drawn with an eye for detail of time and place. The climbing scenes are spot on, especially kept in historical context as is the whole book. It is thick with the history , lore and vernacular of Scotland making this a most desirable book for Anglophiles.

The SAS are among the best-trained and most effective Special Forces units in existence. This book is the incredible story of their origins, told in their own words. During the summer of 1941, a young Scots Guard officer called David Stirling persuaded MEHQ to give its backing to a small band of 60 men christened 'L Detachment'. With a wealth of stunning photographs, many from the SAS Regimental Archives, the book captures the danger and excitement of the initial SAS raids against Axis airfields during the Desert War, the battles in Italy and those following the D-Day landings, as well as the dramatic final push into Germany itself and the discovery of such Nazi horrors as Belsen.

An exhaustive account of an elite organization's formative years, The SAS in World War II is the fruit of Gavin Mortimer's expertise and his unprecedented access to the SAS Regimental Archives. Incorporating interviews with the surviving veterans, it is the definitive account of the regiment's glorious achievements in the years from 1941 to 1945.

When Army General Harris Green begins to suspect that President Keith Rozan’s halting leadership of the US military will lead to catastrophic results for the country down the line, General Green must ask himself an important question: Should a military leader forsake his commissioning oath when a president acts outside the bounds of the Constitution?

Tipped off by White House aides that President Rozan has imminent plans to change the character, purpose, and future of the US Military Academy, General Green realizes he must take action. And he knows just the man with the courage and character to fight Washington from behind the Superintendent’s desk at West Point: Marine General Simon Pack.

Hardheaded and unswervingly devoted to his missions, General Pack resigned from the US Marine Corps out of revulsion at the rise of careerism among senior leaders. But with time running out, will General Green persuade him to return to active duty to save the Academy’s future—and the future of the US military?

A thought-provoking and controversial story that asks hard questions about military-civilian relations, The Supe is essential reading for anyone who cares about the future of the military in this country.

The Supe: A Novel of West Point, by John M. Vermillion

About the Author

John Vermillion served in the US Army as a career infantry officer, Airborne and Ranger qualified. He attended all the standard military schools through the War College. He earned a BS from West Point before continuing on to earn three additional degrees.

The author believes the main cause of America's present, pervasive problems is a dearth of leadership throughout society, and that if the leadership vacuum created our problems, filling the vacuum can solve them. The Supe shows the vast positive influence one genuine leader can trigger.

Like the best leaders he encountered, the author respects Reason and the stoic code, as does protagonist Simon Pack.

I can state with authority that this outstanding cadet went on to become an even better career Army Officer By Chopper Man Having known the author, John Vermillion, since our plebe year together at West Point in 1966, I can state with authority that this outstanding cadet went on to become an even better career Army Officer. Although we never served together following graduation from the Academy, I could follow John’s career success by his reputation alone, starting with Airborne and Ranger Schools and then a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam where he stayed in the jungle with his troops and not behind a desk. His dedication to duty and willingness to incessantly “do the right thing” formed the warrior ethos of this career Army Infantry Officer.Building on the author’s own foundation of selfless service and deep respect for Reason and the Stoic Code, the protagonist of Vermillion’s first novel, The Supe, General Simon Pack, a retired Marine General and West Point graduate, is recalled to active duty to serve as the Superintendent of West Point. The book is impossible to put down as the reader is engaged fully as Pack systematically begins to dismantle the minefield of political correctness that surrounds the Academy. Forced repeatedly to choose the gut-wrenching “harder right” versus “the easy wrong,” especially regarding the Army Football Team, his decisions are not always popular with some—as will be the case with this novel.John Vermillion has written outstanding fiction, but the issues are most real. And, for that reason alone, this book should be mandatory reading for all leaders everywhere. With suspenseful page-turning action, The Supe demonstrates the compelling difference one genuine, selfless leader can make in our increasingly jaded and self-infused world.

A very interesting and compelling story of the threats to our nation's military leaders--the United States Military Academy at West Point. A great read for anyone who cares about our nation's future! I hope the author continues to write as he has a great talent. This book would make a great movie!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Vermillion's book illustrates how easily West Point's mission can be derailed By marilyn saunders Outstanding read! The author tackles head on the issue of political correctness and the debilitating impact it has on leader development at West Point! The nation's citizens expect that West Point graduates will be educated and trained to lead soldiers in defense of national security! Vermillion's book illustrates how easily West Point's mission can be derailed.

During a portion of the first half of the present century, and more particularly during the latter part of it, there flourished and practised in the city of New York a physician who enjoyed perhaps an exceptional share of the consideration which, in the United States, has always been bestowed upon distinguished members of the medical profession. This profession in America has constantly been held in honour, and more successfully than elsewhere has put forward a claim to the epithet of “liberal.” In a country in which, to play a social part, you must either earn your income or make believe that you earn it, the healing art has appeared in a high degree to combine two recognised sources of credit. It belongs to the realm of the practical, which in the United States is a great recommendation; and it is touched by the light of science—a merit appreciated in a community in which the love of knowledge has not always been accompanied by leisure and opportunity.

The pages were yellowed and the cover worn. If I had paid more for it, it would have been returned-no question. Thank you.

In the early 1970's, 10 students at Ole Miss decided fame and fortune awaited them. They formed a horn band, named it Uncle Sam, bought a used school bus, painted it blue and worked up four hours of music. They played covers of BS&T, Chicago, Sly and the Family Stone and other hits of the time. Their weekend tours carried them across the southeast and, while they may not have made the big time, they did put themselves through college and formed friendships that have stood the test of time.

Music is so much a part of my life and when you are in the "band" no matter what band you will always have a family. Great book. Thanks Jim for writing this.

The 31st Alabama Infantry Regiment was organized at Talladega, 16 March 1862, with men from Calhoun, Cherokee, Montgomery, Randolph, Shelby, and Talladega counties. It reported to General Danville Leadbetter at Chattanooga shortly after. It then moved up to Knoxville, where it was brigaded under General Seth Barton, in Carter Stevenson's Division. After the Kentucky Campaign, the 31st was permanently brigaded with the 20th, 23rd, 30th, and 46th Alabama regiments, under General Edward D. Tracy of Madison, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. In December, the 31st accompanied Stevenson's Division to Vicksburg. There were 260 effectives in January, 1863, with 21 killed and 37 wounded at Vicksburg. Following parole at Vicksburg, the 31st continued throughout the remainder of the war with the Army of Tennessee. There were 23 casualties at Chattanooga, and in December, 1863, there were 452 present with 323 arms. Only 180 were fit for duty in January 1865, and less than 100 surrendered in April. When the next issue is released, I have the pleasure of having a niece represented in its pages. I bought the first issue to see what the book was like and was interested in looking at the works of the various artists.

Excerpt from Russia's AgonyTo my readers:In the following pages I speak of Russian affairs with the experience of an observer who has lived from early boyhood among the Russian people and has shared with them their joys and sorrows."Russia's Agony" was written in compliance with a personal call and with the discharge of a public duty; it combines a human document with a historical treatise. Men, events and conditions have, I believe, been dealt with in a spirit of fairness, for although the original edition of this book was begun and completed a year ago, the storm and stress of later developments call for no substantial changes. That a comprehensive account of Russia from the inside was in demand has been shown by the rapid exhaustion of several impressions of this work, and indicated by the publication of an American edition.Serious study of Russian affairs is more than ever important, and even necessary, for every thinking man and woman, not only because of the ignorance that prevails on the subject - a great handicap to us in the War - but because of the great social drama that has been staged in that country. Since her collapse, Russia has become the focus of social unrest throughout the world. Bolshevism - a foe more deadly to our civilization than German Militarism - cannot be effectively combated unless we understand the circumstances of its origin and working, indissolubly connected with the so-called Russian Revolution - a Revolution that has still to justify its name.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Leigh Robert Wilton was a British military liason officer and witnessed first hand the terrible tradgedy of the 1917 Russian Revolution. He was with the British consulate during the start of the 1917 revolution and the terrible aftermath. He took many notes and wrote about what he saw when he returned to Britain in 1919. He was there trying to ascertain the reasons why Russia allied with Britain and France in the struggle against the Central Powers was undermined by left wing Marxist revolutionary forces led by Lenin and Trotsky. He explains the main reasons why a great nation imploded and went from Orthodox Christian Civilization led by a Czar with a free press, trial by jury and a fairly stable rule of law to a Russian provisional government to Red and White Civil War and finally to the abysmal and savage Red Terror or government by the end of a gun and where opponents were sent in massive numbers to build Gulags and canals. How did this tradgedy happen ? What were the causes ? Who was responsible ? Wilton spreads the responsibility around to several parties. He laments that Alexander II was a fine family man but was not suitable for ruling Russia; he could not make tough decisions when it matter the most. The Czar lost prestige and crediblity from his family ties to the notorious Russian mystic Rasputin who remarkably had the ability to stop bleeding in the Czar's only son who had inherited hemophilia from Queen Victoria's side of the family. Russia was not ready for conflict logistically. They did not have the munition cabability or the latest communication ability. They did have the bravest soldiers in Europe but logistics and armaments were not sufficient and the Germans drove them back with severe defeats such as at Tannenberg. There were shortages of food for the Russian population and after four years of war much of the population lost faith with the Czar and the Red Soviets eagerly exploited the difficulties with a vision of a worker's paradise where there would be no rich or poor but all proletariats......all brothers in sharing Russia. Desperate people do desperate things especially when evil men beckon with promises to make things better in a worker's paradise. Although the serfs had been freed decades prior probably 80 % of the population was semi-illiterate. Having many, many ill informed, illiterare and easily swayed ex-serfs was another salient cause for the Red Revolution. They could be whipped up into a frenzy to kill the upper classes and they did at the urgings of the commissars who acted as secular priests for the revolution. It was a terrible storm of murder and vengence on millions of innocents. The Czar had kept Russia intact in the 1905 Revolution thru a combination of reform and increased security measures. But this time the Marxist's forces had outside funding from America and Germany and had improved their game plan for conquest. They had learned their lessons and improved their skills. Karensky was head of the weak and feckless Russian provisional government. He was inept and not capable of seeing the internal threats until it was too late. The Marxists were experts in persuading the poor and have-nots that all would be well in the Marxist workers paradise. Most of the former serfs believed that a classless society would be an improvement on the class structure. They allowed themselves to be enslaved for 3 generations until 1991. The Ancient Greeks were right; the rule of the mob is the worst form of government. In this case it was rule of the mob which did not believe in God or the existence of the human soul.Of course the Germans wanted Russia out of the war and it was not hard to convince Lladimir Lenin to leave Switzerland and enter on a sealed train to Leningrad to arouse the masses during the provisional government phase after the Czar abdicated.Germany of course supplied Lenin with funds to ensure the revolution would be successful. Also the provisional Russian government allowed many left wing radicals from New York to take part in the incipient revolution. It was a tradgedy with many fathers and causes. But there was some good news. Finland, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia did break away successfully and formed independent courtries not under Soviet control.Excellent research book on a topic most people are not familiar with. Highest recommendation.

Believe it or not, the United States and the British Empire officially saw the Bolshevic's as a crazy bunch of Talibani's. That's why Sir Winston Churchill wrote that famous article that I won't go into here. But it was the official line until 1939. Before 1939, the Americans gave those commies a wide berth. So Robert Wilton isn't at all controversial because even the yanks and the Brits knew that it wasn't Russians who seized power in Russia. It was an alien, 'diabolical', people who wanted revenge, as Winston Churchill wrote in his trademark Gibbonesque prose.By some crazy alignment of the stars, the Taliban parallel hasn't been pulled out of a hat. The editors of the time-line inspired the Taliban to blow up those giants Buddha's? Why? Well this was a warning from history. The destruction of a beautiful monument to architecture was a warning that an alien culture will do this.So when the Bolshevic's took power, they blew up the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the biggest cathedral in the world. But this wasn't because of ideology, as they say. The Nazi's didn't blow up cathedrals and neither did the French revolutionaries. It has to be an outside force, or, as they used to say, an alien tribe. So the way a muslim can easily dynamite those giant Buddha statues, a Jew dynamited the Cathedral of Christ the saviour, and use the Icon of the Mother of God as target practice!
