Both playful and psychologically intense, his work resonates with all viewers because his themes and assertions are basic to all belief systems. I saw an interview about him on youtube and thereby learned how his art reflects the way that he embraces and comments on the world -- and I mean the ENTIRE world. He mentions that he travels a lot, and that seems to inform his paintings, sculptures, and constructions. His thoughtfulness and candor are engaging, especially when he is describing work that is politically controversial. In some ways, he is old school (craftsmanship, didactic) and in another he is very experimental (fresh, gutsy, edgy). There is also a lyrical design quality present that is rarely seen in contemporary work. This is sophisticated stuff, well explained and deeply felt.
