Two very different sisters, Jessica and Gerry Dean, find a strange redemption through a screenplay by Mickey Gilmore Jessica Dean, 24 and a Gulf War hero, dies in a car crash, leaving behind Roland Dean, a grieving father and former cop. Mickey Gilmore, a family friend and screenwriter, investigates Jessica's past and finds her journal describing battles and revealing a clandestine love affair with a celebrated older general hiding a secret of his own. Mickey meets a beautiful woman named Rosalyn Jackson; together, they explore the possibility of producing Jessica's story on the big screen. Mickey Gilmore is also Godfather to Jessica's drug addicted but rebellious half-sister, Gerry. A fatal confrontation with gang members ultimately leads to Gerry Dean’s unexpected recovery. If the biracial love affair of Mickey Gilmore and Rosalyn Jackson is vulnerable to the competition in Hollywood, Mickey seeks gold at the Emmys with the unfolding stories of the Dean Sisters. Like another famous Dean, Jessica’s story does not end in death, and her poignant legacy forces a new evaluation of a tragic family.

Intriguing characters, enticing storyline By Laurel Johnson When the author sent me this book requesting a review, I doubted that a story about two sisters would hold my interest. Within the first few pages, intriguing characters and an absorbing storyline enticed me to read this book in one sitting.Jessica Dean and her half-sister Gerry are as different as night and day. Jessica is focused on success, sure of herself, attractive and accomplished. Gerry is oddly flamboyant, shuns any sort of responsibility, fails at almost everything she tries, drinks too much and lives in a ghetto neighborhood with two drug-addicted losers. Jessica is her father, Roland’s, pride and joy. Gerry has been disowned by him long ago. Despite their differences, the sisters share a loving, devoted relationship. Early on in the book, Jessica is killed in a car wreck and it’s only then that the chinks in her shining persona are revealed, and Gerry is not the loser she seemed to be.I don’t want to reveal much of the plot here. The strength of this story is in the characters and family interactions. Jessica and Gerry are fascinating and poignant as their story unfolds. Roland Dean is a complicated man, a tough cop derailed by a devastating illness. Mickey Gilmore, a family friend, adds humor to a dark time while fighting his own demons, as do two colorful grandmothers. The author weaves these characters and their stories together in a most satisfying way. Readers who crave a different experience should give this book a try.
