About the Author Erika Joy Syroid is a violinist, a child of the universe, a world traveler, an accomplished musician and teacher, not to mention drop dead gorgeous. Her global travels, her amazing career and her story is a ride that few could ever imagine. Erika was born in Richland, Washington in i950 and moved to Montana, "Big Sky Country" at the tender age of six years old. Talk about down to earth?! She attained her musical degree at the University of Montana and attended the world famous Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Eventually, her travels brought her back to her birthplace, the state of Washington (Seattle, to be exact) where she was inspired to write Detour on the D String. In 1979, Erika had moved to Las Vegas, NV with a small child and an immense amount of talent and determination. She had no trouble digging in and finding work. She was sought after as a performer and teacher, giving lessons to so many talented kids who have excelled in the arts and have carved their own pathway to success. Playing, performing and sometimes traveling with such artists as Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Don Henley and Tony Bennett is quite a life. Erika is inspired and loves all types of music, from Hendrix rock to classical Bach. Oh... and yes, she can play it also. Detour on the D String is an inspiring story of life, love, pain, heartache, recovery and accomplishment. Erika resides in Las Vegas now, playing violin at the world famous Palazzo Resort with Bob Anderson, "Frank the Man, the Music." Mr. Anderson is the quintessential Frank Sinatra impersonator. Beautifully written in a stream of consciousness voice with stories galore about performing and hanging out with many notables of the Entertainment World from Sinatra to Bennett, Anka to Rawls. Pictures of the great natural beauty of Montana - a veritable feast for the eyes. But I said downs also and they are heart-wrenching but inspiring as the book leaves a positive message suggesting that if you really do what you love you will rise above it all. And the color of the coffee-table style pages is lovely. Highly Recommended!
