On the twentieth anniversary of its publication, this volume reprints and expands upon what has become a beloved photobook classic. Inspired by the striking dress codes of various social groups, Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek have been systematically documenting the group identities they have encountered on the streets of cities around the world since 1994. They call their series Exactitudes, as a contraction of "exact" and "attitude." By presenting their subjects in an identical framework―each member of a group is posed similarly against a white ground―Versluis and Uyttenbroek create an almost scientific record of people's attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity, manifested in a strict dress code. Simultaneously rigorously documentary and artistic, the project tests the apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity, subverts the idea of "street style" and disrupts conventions of documentary street photography (the series has been called "August Sander and Eugène Atget turned on their heads by Bernd and Hilla Becher" by photographer and critic Gil Blank). For this twentieth-anniversary edition, Versluis and Uyttenbroek have produced 19 new series. The subcultures of Rotterdam's heterogeneous street scene remain a major source of inspiration for them, although they have also visited St. Petersburg, Zurich, Milan, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Casablanca, Praia (Cabo Verde), New York, Bordeaux, London and Paris.

By Butterscotch really cool book. each page (and there are over 150) features a set of 12 people all dressed very similar to one another. there are variations of dress and how people attempt to be unique in their clothing choices. but, by pairing the people into groups you can see that PEOPLE ARE NOT UNIQUE! the book very clearly shows that people are conformists more than anything else, and that even the most 'unique' clothing choices make you look just like another group of folks who gravitate to that look as well. it's fun to see this. and if you do want to stand out the only way is with extremely bold patterns and prints; those were the only photos in the book where the individuals looked fairly unique and didn't comform as much. monochrome = you will always look like everyone around you whether you realize it or not.

About the Author Engineer Fazel Ahmed Afghan is the son of Mr. Abdul Satar Khan Durani (Popalza-i), born in 1937 in the town of Salihan, District of Panjwayee in the Province of Kandahar, Afghanistan. Ahmed Afghan completed his primary and secondary education at Habibia High School and at the Afghan Technical Institute of Kabul in 1960. He received his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Engineering at Kabul University in 1964. In 1972, he received his master's degree in structural engineering from University of Manitoba in Canada. Ahmed Afghan has served in a variety of positions within the construction division of the Afghan Ministry of Education. His primary duties included being in charge of building schools across the country. He served as president of construction and then the general president of the construction unit at the Ministry of Education in Kabul. Ahmed Afghan has been the project coordinator for school buildings projects financed by UNESCO, UNICEF, WFP, World Bank, USAID, and Ministry of Education, Kabul. Ahmed Afghan was appointed as consul general of Afghanistan in Bombay, India, and served from 1981 to 1985. While living in India, he continued his work and goal of establishing peace in his motherland, Afghanistan. Since September 1987, he and his family have settled in Vancouver, Canada, where he continues to work toward his dear and critical goal.

The detailed political history of the last five decades makes it especially pertinent for present. It’s an unbiased, well-documented history of Afghanistan from international sources. The “Afghan Conundrum” has been at the forefront of the news media and the need for its resolution has been for 23 years before the American, NATO and ISAF intervention and 14 years since. The geopolitical and the strategic location of the conflict have added fuel to the fire. Its increasing complexity has caused many astute diplomats, political scientists and great statesmen to scratch their heads! He wears a long coat and carries little other than a small bag that contains a pipe. This is no ordinary pipe. It is an ancient instrument that the man, who calls himself Shadrak, begins to play. As he does, the ground begins to shake. Bones begin to appear and fasten themselves together and before long a dinosaur stands in front of him. Strange, scary, and certainly magical, but nearly as strange and scary as what Shadrak has planned for the city of St. Louis. In fact, he's just getting warmed up.Ben Bradley is a spin doctor. He works most closely with the Mayor of St. Louis. He has separated from his wife, Maggie, and isn't truly even sure why. While he tries to keep his family problems in the background, it isn't always possible. His children are understandably unhappy and his son Matt is acting out. In addition to the family drama Ben has to figure out how to put a good light on the Mayor's pet project- the redevelopment of a large area of the city that will include expensive new homes, shopping, schools, roads and parks. Unfortunately the poor residents of the area will have to go. They just don't know it yet. As construction workers begin the process of destruction, word comes back to the Mayor that they have stopped working. The reason? Rats. Huge and unusually aggressive rats. The city will need to hire a rat catcher.This is a modern retelling of the fairy tale about the Pied Piper. It is not a story for children, however, and Ben, his wife and their children- in fact ALL of the children in St. Louis- will be part of an ancient drama that has been played out over and over again through the centuries. When the homeless population of St. Louis begins to disappear and people who question the methods of the city's odd new rat catcher begin to die, Ben will have no choice but to accept that not all fairy tales are myths. And this one is deadly.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beginner level chart - no alternative fingerings By Glen Cunningham This chart just shows the basics. There are NO alternate fingerings - only one way to finger each note is shown. These missing alternatives can be very handy, such as the center right key for F# in scales like D (for easier E to F# to G transition). And the very commonly used Bb lever next to the rear B key is shown but not included in the charts (very good way to play Bb in scales that use it such as F major, making an easier A to Bb to C transition). And the low B and gizmo keys (some flutes that have them) are missing. This chart is the minimum a beginner would need, but no more.
