Before the cab-forward revolution led by the 700 Series American-LaFrance, there was the buckboard style of fire apparatus. With the driver ahead or aside of the engine, the buckboard style was the original cab-forward. This buckboard style was one of the more common incarnations of early motor fire apparatus design. Today it often is overlooked despite its historical significance. Buckboard Fire Apparatus: The Original Cab-Forward, with more than 200 photos and advertisements, explores the development of motor fire apparatus of the buckboard style during the brief period from 1905 through around 1920 when the buckboard style was common and produced in significant numbers by a variety of manufacturers. About the Author Anthony Buono has been fascinated with fire trucks since his Mother first took him as a toddler in 1971 to visit the Brooklyn fire station near his family's home in Flatbush. Now a married father of three, a matrimonial attorney and a volunteer firefighter in upstate New York, he still has his youthful enthusiasm for fire trucks and has developed a special interest in the earliest motor fire apparatus. Anthony Buono is a member of SPAAMFAA. His other books include 175 Years of Service: The History of the Valatie Fire Department (2012), One Last Run: Photos from the Collection of the FASNY Museum of Firefighting (2013) and Iconic Fire Apparatus (2014).

By mike nugai This is a great book that covers a section of Fire apparatus that has not gotten not much attention over the years. The book is full of information about the how and why of a distinct type of apparatus and how it shaped the fire truck industry. A great read for any apparatus historian or enthuses. The book was a great addition to my fire apparatus information library. I hope there are future additions on rare sections of fire apparatus history like this publication.

By Jay This a great book on the older apparatus fire departments used in the years ago. A lot of work went into the book. If you are a collector of fire memorabilia or a fire buff, who loves reading about how it was done and seeing these magnificent machines of yesteryear, this book it for you! I wouldn't be with out it. I have enjoyed reading it. You will as well!
