It is the skilled researcher side of Robyn that exposes the reader to a broad spectrum of resources such as university theses and dissertations, convict records, historic trust inventories, and other unique genealogy records. In covering these resources, the instructor side of Robyn skillfully incorporates fundamental principles of genealogical research and evidence analysis. What I like most about this book, however, is the distinctive stories from her family history which Robyn sprinkles throughout the book, each adding interest and vitality to the research tips and instructional material. A must read for those serious about genealogy!

By Vivian I have know Robyn for a number of years and I can truly say she has a passion and a gift for discovering facts about Afro American genealogy which is difficult to find. This book was give to me as a gift and I have found it to be not only an excellent guide in my personal research, but, also, it has given me so many other options to consider. The book also shares examples of Robyn's personal family history to illustrate how you can "write your own history" to make it interesting. I would highly recommend this book to beginners who are trying to get start or for those who would like to find ways to expand their insight into their family genealogy. The book will definitely give you numerous options to explore!
