Wonderful art of sci-f and horror By ZachiP if you buy small press limited edition books from such as cemetery dance, subterranean press and PS publishing, you probably saw the amazing cover artwork by Tomislav Tikulin. now for the first time they all collected in great Hardcover. great printing also. the quality and the page is not glossy but paper like and it's looks and feel good to browse the pages.the book divided into 2 part: sci-fi-fantasy and horror-suspense. you get all the wonderful covers he did for Stephen King limited edition from cemetery dance and PS pub. i highly recommended to anyone who like sci-fi or horror artwork to check this out. you will not disappointed.

Primary source collection on the Protestant Revolution = awesome By Florentius In recent days, the study of history has become less a search for truth and almost exclusively about the creation of a narrative to further a political ideology. As a result , I have come to distrust most modern interpreters of history (particularly those who don't wear their subjectivity on their lapel) and greatly value the study of primary sources when learning or teaching history.And that's where Phillip Campbell's The Rending of Christendom comes in. In an accessible 100 pages, Campbell offers a gold mine of basic primary documents dealing with the root causes, major events and personalities of the Protestant Revolution. The objective is to give the student a sampling of important sources from that era and teach them how to draw inferences from them. The documents run the gamut of the conflict, from well known sources such as Luther's 95 Theses and the Edict of Nantes to less studied but equally fascinating documents such as Luther's "Against the Robbing and Murdering Hordes of Peasants" and the final letter of Mary Queen of Scots prior to her execution.Unlike most traditional textbooks, these documents do the opposite of reducing history to a bland sequence of names, dates and capsule summaries. Rather, they add the excitement of the present to the events described and put intellectual faces to the key names: Martin Luther, Ignatius of Loyola, Thomas More, Richard Hooker, John Calvin, Francis de Sales, Elizabeth I, Charles Borromeo and many others. As such, the source documents here may be the beginning of innumerable conversations that have immediate relevance to the situation in our world today. Instead of creating their own narrative for credulous students to memorize and regurgitate, these documents allow students to contemplate the big issues of the time from the inside. They also provide fodder for students to draw their own conclusions, aided by Campbell's brief introductory statements and helpful study questions at the end of each document.I highly recommend The Rending of Christendom for use in both traditional Catholic educational settings and homeschooling. Really, resources like this should be a staple in Catholic schools that hope to do more than simply put a thin Catholic varnish on the secular American historical narrative. Another similar primary source compendia which I recommend is The First Crusade: The Accounts of Eye-Witnesses and Participants (Fontes Mediaevalium), a book that chronicles the history of the much maligned and misunderstood First Crusade through the eyes of those who experienced it first-hand.

Included are: The Speckled Band, Silver Blaze, The Copper Beeches, The Missing Three-Quarter, The Dancing Men, The Naval Treaty, The Red-Headed League, and The Bruce-Partington Plans. If you like Sherlock Holmes you won`t go wrong here. This edition at this price is a bargain with large clear type on creme colored wide margined paper. The binding is excellent too. I almost forgot. There are some very good black and white drawings that appear throughout the book.

She loves the Holmes movies so this book was an easy choice. While some of the words in the stories were a little difficult for her, it was not too difficult for her to understand. She enjoyed reading the different mysteries and related very well to the great detective.

The Cover is great, the art is beautiful and the lace bookmark is so practical. I also would recommend the complete sherlock holmes two volume paperback set. Also the other everymans children classics look great too so I would recommend you pick up a few of the others like George MacDonald's.

Crane has decided to use sex as a main theme in this series. His writing is every bit as good as it ever was (excellent!) but just find the use of sex really crass in these books. It's actually consistent with the theme of demons but it's pretty repulsive. I managed to make it through the 4th book which tied up most of the loose ends but won't be reading any more in this series. It's just not worth putting up with the crass use of sex in the story. It really seems like it is used for shock value more than anything else and just to see if he could write like that. He can write like that, but I don't care for it.On the other hand, I'd highly recommend that you read his Sanctuary Series, Girl in the Box series, and Girl Out of the Box series. All of those are superb. Thank God he is a fast, prolific writer. I have a hard time waiting for books in these series.

And in case you're wondering, yes, said peach is rotten and disgusting to its very core.Enter Kitty. A bad ass demon in the shell of a lady. Evil is as evil does. And she does some very very evil things indeed. I'm not gonna spoil your fun. But she is one sick, twisted individual.But don't think the story is just about her. Oh no. The threads that hold Midian together are unravelling. In a very visible manner.And yet, beyond the hell threatening to unleash on Midian, it is once again the human story which so involves the reader. The secrets which are slowly being uncovered. The past which is being revealed. And despite the amount of brain bleach required, and google searches for dubious terminology (no images!), it's the characters who will draw me back to the next book.I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

His lastest demon is Kitty who is XXX rated so be warned. Arch and his wife still have isuses they bring along with her brother Brian who has his own philosophies. Arch's boss Sheriff Reeves is finding life in Midian a challenge with things he does not grasp. Loved the hint of powers - maybe a crossover in the future with Sienna??? Robert is great author with all his books and story lines. Will look forward from more.

Meadows In my household drinking water has become something that is not only a part of our daily routine, but also something we actually like to do! It's LIFE! Why? It's great for the body, and skin. It also helps us to feel rejuvenated and energized and without itwell...we just couldn't live! :)My husband and I have twin toddlers, and it is very important (VITAL) that we as a family adopt good habits while they are young. Naturally,healthy drinking water is of high importance to us. Since, our twins were babies we tried to do everything right - we used lots, and lots of filtration systems. I never even considered the fact that if water were to ever run out, or if we were unable to purchase it in our grocery stores what the heck would we do?!I love this nifty survival guide! In fact, I love it so much that I even made sure my husband and I sat down and read it together :) The resources are pretty much unlimited and this book will really make you think! It's cheap too!

The text also discusses various methods of treating water, which were fascinating to me. These include chemical treatment, filtering and heat. It even goes into further detail with the process of distillation.After learning about collecting and treating water, you’ll learn about ways to store water and how to sanitize storage containers.This is a wonderful text that gave me the information I needed to write about a character getting back to nature and surviving off the land after a zombie apocalypse. It has the information I needed in collecting, treating and storing water.

Fascinating theory By Rachel Horon The theory that Benjamin Franklin would have defected to Britain if the colonist lost the American Revolution is an interesting one. While history books focus on the contributions Franklin made to the colonies from postmaster to starting the first fire brigade to serving on the Continental Congress, Dr. Aaron Laird reminds readers of the time spent in London while his son studied law and Franklin's connections with notable Brits. These valid points make logical arguments for this theory, but I wished for more. The content is sound and the references are strong, but the format had issues (repeated a particular section twice) and the last half of the book recounted battles and soldiers like Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold, but didn't make a direct connection to the theory of Benjamin Franklin's possible defection. Another edition may polish this gem.

An entertaining and thought provoking ‘what if’ book By Grady Harp Dr. Aaron Laird earned his BS and Doctorate of Science form California University and is an ordained non-denominational Minister: he is a humanitarian and supporter of life in all the various forms of God’s creation. He gained his PhD from Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland) and he comfortably uses the prefix Dr. as a poet. The doctorate designation is not shared. But all of the peripheral information about him is secondary to the manner in which he has been so comfortable becoming a popular poet, selling his compilations widely and continuing to write his poetry. As has been stated, his poems `transcend space and time' with historical, contemporary, and philosophical poems - using vivid imagery, sharp use of language, and existential ideas will make you stop and think about the world around you.'The unique aspect of Aaron’s writing, beyond the varied spectrum of his publications, is the manner in which he approaches poetry, animal concerns, imagined revisions of history, metaphysical issues - he touches so many topics with surety that he must be one of the finest coffee mates available!Aaron gets right to the point from his first page of this short but fascinating book: ’ It is the judgment of this writer that Benjamin Franklin would have probably defected to the British should the Colonists lose the Revolutionary War. This stems from the fact that prior to the war, Franklin had been an ardent royalist and though there were growing tensions owing to the discontent of the colonists, he was hoping King George III would see reason and do everything in his power to address the concerns of the colonies and not ignore or take them for granted. Many people might get the impression he favored independence wholeheartedly just because he opposed some of the policies the Parliament tried to impose on the colonies such as the Stamp Act which many vigorously opposed as well as other "Intolerable Acts1." It was for this reason he kept silent as rumors of breaking away from Britain were rife and tried to avoid topic as he earned a reputation of being a compelling orator and public speaker in addition to his many talents and many thought he was in the same league as the firebrand Patrick Henry. There were even rumors he might be spying for the British as there were several who knew how close he was to some members of King George III's government It is likely that even though he was part of the delegation that declared independence, he would be spared from harsh punishment owing to his connections in the British government who will very likely intercede on his behalf. The possibility of Franklin defecting is strong but this could only happen if the British would address the earlier concerns as Franklin advised. If not, so as long as they remain unaddressed, it would start all over again.’And that is just for openers. Aaron goes on to be specific and document his thoughts in a book that makes us all scratch our heads with a healthy ‘what if’. Books like this offer an opportunity to reflect and revise our history. The Overland Campaign that pitted Robert E. Lee against Ulysses S. Grant is one of the most famous campaigns of the Civil War, and perhaps its greatest chess match. While Grant sought to destroy Lee's Army of Northern Virginia along the way to Richmond, Lee aimed to defend his capital while staying alert for a golden opportunity to strike a decisive blow against Grant's Army of the Potomac. The result was an incredibly costly campaign that saw four major battles and near-continuous fighting in May and June, 1864.

At the Battle of the Wilderness (May 5-7, 1864), Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee fought to a standstill in their first encounter, failing to dislodge each other despite incurring nearly 30,000 casualties between the Union Army of the Potomac and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Despite the fierce fighting, Grant continued to push his battered, but resilient, army south, hoping to beat Lee's army to the crossroads at Spotsylvania Court House, but Lee's army beat Grant's to Spotsylvania and began digging in, setting the scene for on and off fighting from May 8-21, which ultimately inflicted more casualties than the Battle of the Wilderness. In fact, with over 32,000 casualties among the two sides, it was the deadliest battle of the Overland Campaign.

After Spotsylvania, Grant and Lee both raced to the next natural defensive line, the North Anna River.

The author of the recol­lections was born into one of the richest families in Hungary in 1924. The young man clearly had practically unlimited opportunities but chose a medical career in order to help poor people. These plans came to naught after the German occupation of Hungary in March, 1944. Fortunately he and his family some of the wealthiest citizens of the country were able to leave Hungary under an agreement with the Germans and were taken safely to Portugal. Thomas came to the United States in 1945 and, after some military service, resumed his education culminating eventually in a professorship in anesthesiology. He was most active in the development of education in respiratory care and is the author of some seventy papers and books. In the present volume he not only clearly demonstrates his deep obligation to his adopted country but also gives a sharp and sometimes incisive picture of his childhood, youth and extended family.

It provides some interesting insights into life in Hungary from the late 1800s through WW II, which is something about which I knew very little.

'Just for Fun' is an anthology of short stories, some fiction, some faction, some autobiographical, but always interesting. The book is a mix of humour, pathos and a little bathos. The author called the book “Just for Fun’ for two reasons. Firstly because that is the lead story and secondly because writing is fun—lots of fun and hopes that the reader has fun reading the book. The author was born in London, England and grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. For the last 35 years influenced by the effects the Holocaust had on the Jewish people and by Zionism he has lived in Jerusalem, Israel. Antisemitism and the events occurring recently in Europe, particularly in France, have endorsed the author’s convictions. Humour is important, we cannot live without it. However humour is not always universally understood, but the author has tried to keep the humour simple and it should translate into all cultures. Some of the stories were triggered by real life, like ‘The Man in the Plastic Mask’—the author suffers from sleep apnea. The author's beautiful granddaughter inspired ‘Abigail’s Notebook’. The author is a hopeless romantic—no one is too old to fall in love—hence the story ‘Ambushed’. Over the years the author has worked in the healthcare industry, and an incident many years ago gave rise to, ‘Black Heart and Purple Hearts’, ‘All’s fair in Love and War’, ‘Bedpans and Bandages’, and’ Limehill - South Africa’. South Africa inspired many of the stories, especially, ‘Julia’, ‘Moses’, ‘Olga’ and ‘A Jew goes Forth’. Although not all the stories are biographical, the anthology is a mirror, although sometimes a little hazy, into the author’s psyche.

Review for Just for Fun By Shirley Israel Henry Tobias’ collection of short stories “Just for Fun” is a vivid depiction of events, people, and places he has experienced during his life’s journey spanning the years of his young adulthood in South Africa to his subsequent marriage and bringing up of a family after emigrating to Israel.Although the narrative is fictitious in parts, the feelings, thoughts, and outlook all remain true to the author’s world view which allows many of the stories the gritty authenticity that they carry.He evokes much of the atmosphere of sixties South Africa, from the insularity of a sheltered upbringing to the eye-opening events that occurred during those times under a repressive and authoritarian government.His softer side is evoked very clearly in poignant stories such as” Abigail’s Notebook” whilst the harsh realities of being black or poor and white in an Apartheid society are clearly and concisely illustrated in stories such as “Julia”, “Moses”, and “Olga” and his ancestral roots are lightly evoked in “Miriam the washerwoman”.As an anthology with many diverse parts, in my opinion, the success of this book depends heavily on the author writing about matters close to his heart and creating a genuine and appealing set of stories reflecting a range of emotions and situations. In the uniquely South African flavour of many of the stories combined with the British outlook the author has compiled an interesting and multi-faceted anthology designed to captivate the reader through different stages of his life. A very enjoyable and engaging read.
