0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hauntingly beautiful images By Rebecca This book has amazing images! I love the style of slightly creepy yet hauntingly beautiful images. The artwork is very reminiscent of Tim burtons style of drawing which is what initially attracted me to this book. The reason I am giving it only 4 stars is because while the images are great the paper is not. It is very glossy and will be hard to use colored pencils or markers on it without getting a lot of streaking. In the image I colored I used staedtler fineliners pens which work very well The gray background is a Copic marker.Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase and I hope the artist Chris Bonney makes more coloring books!

After a bruising experience as a teacher in Africa, Harry Clewe has come to the mountains of Snowdonia in Wales for some peace and quiet. One day, he stops to pick up an attractive blonde hitchhiker . . . and his life will never be the same again. A desperate and wild obsession ends in a tragedy that condemns Harry to a solitary existence, a loneliness that bears its own depraved and bitter fruit. In the years that follow, his life is changed by a bizarre and ultimately dangerous succession of women. Driven on from crisis to crisis, from one catastrophe to the next, he knows joy, terror, despair . . . and finally, the horror of his own worst impulses. From the award-winning author of The Cormorant and The Woodwitch comes this disturbing and macabre story of one man's encounter with the savagery of human instincts and the cruelty of fate. 'The Blood of Angels is a compelling, beautifully written, lusty storm of a book that will sweep you up from its first page and take you on a breathless, emotional, invigorating journey.' - Mark Morris, from the Introduction 'Stephen Gregory lures you into his feverish tales of madness and nightmare with lush, precise prose, inexorably building a sense of wonder, awe, and bone-deep dread. He's a one-of-a-kind horror writer to read and re-read.' - Paul Tremblay, author of A Head Full of Ghosts 'The Blood of Angels is a bizarre nightmare. Stephen Gregory slowly takes the reader into the depths of strange, insidious happenings and blinding personal phantoms to reveal what lies beneath. Twisted, bitter, uncomfortable in its own skin, The Blood of Angels investigates the damaging repercussions of a childhood encounter as echoes through a deteriorating life. This is a book that seeps into you and leaves an indelible mark. It's affecting, as all great literature should be.' - Simon Strantzas, author of Burnt Black Suns

The Blood of Angels, by Stephen Gregory

Review Shaped and re-shaped by a bizarre and ultimately dangerous succession of women, Harry Clewe is driven by his irrational obsession. For four decades, he struggles with the horror brought on by his own worst impulses. Following him throughout these crises is his angel, brought to vision by his blinding migraines. Relying on unusual totems to hold his angel at bay, Harry finds his releases in the most disturbing manner. A novel of twisted psychological horror, The Blood of Angels is a stark page turner of suspense and surprise. -- Midwest Book Review

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A mentally haunting tale that will leave you speechless! By Kimberly Y. 4.5 stars!THE BLOOD OF ANGELS is possibly the most "haunting" tale of Stephen Gregory's that I've read yet. While not supernatural in any way, the series of events that Harry Clewe goes through give you a sense of quiet, mental "horror" that is difficult to shake. The story is broken up into different sections, each chronicling a period of Harry's life. We see, first hand, how fate takes ahold of this shy, nervous young man and completely molds him into the situations he is surrounded by. I'll admit that I found the novel slow-going at first, but after about 2/3 of the way in, I couldn't stop reading if I tried. This really tests the boundaries of what we feel "shapes" a person's personality, and the influence that even seemingly insignificant things (a toadstone, a brittlestar, an ammonite...) can have in changing a man's life and perspective. The ending left me absolutely speechless, with so many theoretical questions buzzing around in my head! What more could you ask for in a memorable tale?Recommended!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. The Blood of Angels by Stephen Gregory By Mrs. Medicio Horror in the sense that horrific things happen, keeps you squirming in your chair thinking, "No, no, no, no, no! It'll turn out bad." Then you cringe as you read on, and as right as you are in your fruitless attempts to discourage the socially inept character from embarking on a certain path, it is always a path that takes you to places you would never expect. Claustrophobia is palpable in the small houseboat, and even though it remains docked most of the time, the sea is vast, but often contributes to the isolation you feel rather than liberating you from it. Incredibly unique and imaginative and, yes, at times very strange. It has the Stephen Gregory hallmarks of nature and chaos, man and animal, that I really love about his books. This is one I'll have to read again.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Novel Of A Life Gone Wrong By Char's Horror Corner This is one of the most messed up books I've ever read! (And I mean that in a good way.) An in depth character study of a young man freshly returned from teaching in Sudan, morphs into something far different as the story moves along. The book is divided into 4 sections, each one more disturbing than the last.Pacing was a problem with this novel-it starts off very slowly and more than once, I considered giving up on it. But being a fan of Mr. Gregory's work, I kept the faith and was rewarded by a shocking ending that left me stunned. Like jaw dropping, looking like a drooling idiot, stunned. There were so many times in this book where I found myself saying, "Hmm, this looks like it's going in this direction, but it can't do that, it's going too far." And then it did just that. I found myself yelling at Harry, the protagonist, don't do it! Don't do it! But then he did, and it never, ever worked out in his favor. It's difficult to put a label on this novel of... psychological horror? A life gone wrong? A downward spiral of bad choices? A story of taboos broken, and the resulting, unrelenting, guilt? It's all of the above and more. If you're intrigued by this description, this book will work for you. It's dark, down & dirty, and as such, was perfect for this dark fiction lover.Highly recommended for fans of literary, slow burning, psychological horror stories!*I received this book free from Valancourt Books, in exchange for an honest review. This is it.*

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Brief and informative By Amazon Customer This book is a very quick read. The author quickly outlines how to determine your goal, figure out what's the bare minimum required to achieve a proficient amount of knowledge and instructs you to put a concerted effort into achieving it. The book could've used some examples, perhaps a little story to illustrate his point. There were also some grammatical errors. All in all, it was a good book and I plan on rereading it whenever I have a task I want to concur in a short amount of time.

Learning to Learn, Improve Cognitive Function By Arianna Bell-Richards "The most important skill to learn is the skill of learning." — Tony BuzanGreat quote from this booklet and it really hits home. The skills it teaches for improving your cognitive function really ring true to me and make sense. After reading this, you feel like you can master a subject in three weeks. I say give it a try, this can impact your life, your level of intelligence by leaps and bounds.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Wroth giving this book a try By Holy Christian Wear This book is not very long but it does give you some tips and ideas on how to start a new skill or habit. But like anything in like it all comes down to just doing it and sticking with it. You do not really need a book to tell you how to start a new skill if you are not going to stick with it than you will most likely not even stick with reading the book. But this E-Book is wroth reading.

Great book of songs for children and portuguese beginners By Cliente Amazon Your ReviewsCliente Amazon YOUR PUBLIC NAME ChangeLoading...I like this book very much too and my children love it. The song selection is perfect and easy to sing. Even with my basic music skills i was able to accompany my children singing playing the flute. I am familiar with most of the songs and i can say that the translation suits well the original lyrics. It's a great idea to describe the meaning of words and expressions found in the songs. The vocabulary of the songs are basic and easy to learn. There are also playing and arts activities suggested that my children like very much. I highly recommend it.Vania Santana

Intriguing characters, enticing storyline By Laurel Johnson When the author sent me this book requesting a review, I doubted that a story about two sisters would hold my interest. Within the first few pages, intriguing characters and an absorbing storyline enticed me to read this book in one sitting.Jessica Dean and her half-sister Gerry are as different as night and day. Jessica is focused on success, sure of herself, attractive and accomplished. Gerry is oddly flamboyant, shuns any sort of responsibility, fails at almost everything she tries, drinks too much and lives in a ghetto neighborhood with two drug-addicted losers. Jessica is her father, Roland’s, pride and joy. Gerry has been disowned by him long ago. Despite their differences, the sisters share a loving, devoted relationship. Early on in the book, Jessica is killed in a car wreck and it’s only then that the chinks in her shining persona are revealed, and Gerry is not the loser she seemed to be.I don’t want to reveal much of the plot here. The strength of this story is in the characters and family interactions. Jessica and Gerry are fascinating and poignant as their story unfolds. Roland Dean is a complicated man, a tough cop derailed by a devastating illness. Mickey Gilmore, a family friend, adds humor to a dark time while fighting his own demons, as do two colorful grandmothers. The author weaves these characters and their stories together in a most satisfying way. Readers who crave a different experience should give this book a try.

Seven stories of unusual, unexpected, and sometimes charming connections. Beginning with "The Day When JoAnna Cowley, Without Warning, Quits Her Job," about a college professor who may or may not be appropriately paranoid about his colleagues, Kindred Spirits explores the ways in which people develop kinships with others. In "The Sudden Liberation of Bert Scand," the title character's history of bad luck takes a turn for the worse, but he finds comfort in an improbable place. But no such comfort is available for the art gallery owner who is forced to confront an unpleasant truth in "Drunk Monkeys." High school student Stephanie faces the possible end of a once strong friendship in "Boy Hungry," but young Seth, in "There Must Be a Full Moon," finds a bit of redemption during a night that otherwise disappoints. Similarly, a difficult situation has a surprisingly uplifting twist for the main character in "Exegesis of a Kiss." The collection ends with the Christmas novella, "Every Day Is Gravy." After the death of his wife, retired Alex D'Amato braces for his first Christmas alone. A well-intentioned friend tries to cajole Alex out for some fun, but that fun is tainted by the appearance of Alex's perceived nemesis. Two of these stories have previously been published. "The Day When JoAnna Cowley, Without Warning, Quits Her Job" first appeared in The Casserole, and "There Must Be a Full Moon" was originally published in Contraposition.

The stories are peopled by quirky but believable characters whom you root for, even if you don't much think you'd want to spend a lot of time with them in the real world. The writing is spot on, detailed and lively. I recommend "The Day Joanna Cowley, Without Warning, Quits Her Job" to anyone who thinks it might be nice to become a university professor. The entire collection is dynamite.
