Originally published in 1911, this collection of short fairy tales is a fun read for all ages. Here is an excerpt: “Once upon a time there lived a King and a Queen who had one daughter called Rainbow. When she was christened, the people of the city were gathered together outside the cathedral, and amongst them was an old gipsy woman. The gipsy wanted to go inside the cathedral, but the Beadle would not let her, because he said there was no room. When the ceremony was over, and the King and Queen walked out, followed by the Head Nurse who carried the baby, the gipsy called out to them: ‘Your daughter will be very beautiful, and as happy as the day is long, until she sees the Spring!’ And then she disappeared in the crowd.”

By Mary Meet 5 stars for the wonderful stories, 0 for having 0 color plates!HOW can they say this is true to it's original, go into great detail explaining how it's integrity is maintained & thus some images may be blurry etc. ad nauseum & FAIL TO MENTION THERE ARE NO PICTURES? Even though there is a listing for the illustrations, citing the pages they'd be on but NO COLOR PLATES WHATSOEVER! NONE! AT ALL! Which is how many stars I felt like giving this, but that would do the Blue Rose Fairy Book stories a greater injustice than that of OMITTING THE BEAUTIFUL PICTURES! BOO says this Blue Rose Fairy fan!UPDATE: I AM SO SORRY I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!I ordered this listed as a HARD COPY in hopes it would be as presented, as original, to include illustrated plates, colored frontispiece, WHAT ARRIVED WAS JUST A PAPERBACK FACSIMILE WITH ONLY ONE ILLUSTRATION, the frontispiece only & of course not colored. HOW can they describe this as a HARDBOOK COPY as such detailing the preservation & it's just a PAPERBACK, let alone not including the wonderful illustrations - well ONE only, the frontispiece, but even that was only black & white & not even sharp. I am SO disappointed. Glad I paid MORE for a hardback, & with pictures - NOT!OKAY ~ I've ordered another that cost more that says "This view is of the Paperback edition (2009) from BiblioBazaar. The Paperback edition (1911) from The New York Public Library that you originally viewed is the one you'll receive if you click the Add to Cart button on the left." so, if so, we'll see if we see those precious color pictures & I'll definitely update! So HOPEFUL!!!
