Evokes empathy in the boys encounters with the adoptive McCready family; the danger and deceit of Mama Alice; the protectiveness of the native American tribe; the anger, betrayal and personal growth with the mining community. Highly recommended reading for long flights.

The characters are well-drawn and make you really care about what happens to them. It is a beautiful story about personal struggle and the kindness of strangers. The two boys who are the protagonists take you along with them through an adventure of necessity and courage.
