From the Back Cover Praise for Six Days in September "This page-turner of a novel about the Confederate perspective on the battles of South Mountain and Antietam provides the most vivid description I have read of the desperate plight of Southern forces after these bloody reverses." - James M. McPherson, author of Abraham Lincoln and the Pulitzer-prize-winning Battle Cry of Freedom

About the Author Alexander B. Rossino received his B.A. in History from Canisius College, in Buffalo, NY, and his PhD in History from Syracuse University. He worked at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum from 1994 to 2002 and is the author of numerous scholarly articles. His first book, Hitler Strikes Poland: Blitzkrieg, Ideology, and Atrocity, is an acclaimed history of racial-political policies implemented by the Third Reich during its 1939 invasion of Poland. His interest in the U.S Civil War dates from childhood and he long desired to write a novel that transcended the rigid boundaries of academic history. Six Days in September represents that combination of interest and desire.

By Geoffrey Megargee Alex Rossino has combined a firm grasp of history with a real flair for plot, character development, and tension. This is a really good read. People who know the campaign will be pleased, people who don't will be enlightened, and everyone will be pulled into the story. I read the manuscript and could not wait for each new chapter. My only regret is that it isn't longer.

Reading about the Civil War or the War for Southern Independence, depending upon your understanding of this tragic event, can sometime be a task. Most important, when writing a novel is the ability of the author to have a true understanding of the events. In this novel the author shows he has a passion for research into history that took place in Maryland in 1862. He gets the details of Robert E. Lee's campaign correct. It is obvious that he spent a great deal of time bringing the characters to life while remaining true to history. Like Jim Lehrer's "No Certain Rest", a novel is believable only if the facts are correct. Included in this novel are stories of the soldiers that fought during Lee's struggle against the Union army in Maryland. He also examines the experiences of the residents of Sharpsburg, Maryland. The end result is that you get the military perspective from the soldier's point of view but also witness the hardships faced by the civilians that were descended upon by two great armies. This includes the threatened destruction of the little town of Sharpsburg. This book is an honestlook at a small community that was forever changed by some of the bloodiest fighting this country has ever witnessed. Consider this a MUST read.

I've read this book several times now, including some of the early drafts, and it just gets better each time. Mr. Rossino has put people into this well known campaign, and thus added an understanding of the human experience from the front-line soldiers, to the Generals, and to the people of Sharpsburg who were left to struggle with the resulting devastation. Fast paced, well researched, interesting and well-rounded characters, both historical and fictional, tell a story that is difficult to put down. Readers well versed in the Civil War will recognize the quality of historical detail, but anybody reading this book will find themselves pulled into an excellent read.
