An Irish Country Wedding is the seventh book in Patrick Taylor's popular Irish Country series - this beloved New York Times bestselling novel is now in paperback.
Love is in the air in the colorful Ulster village of Ballybucklebo, where Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly has finally proposed to the darling of his youth, Kitty O'Hallorhan. There's a wedding to be planned, but before O'Reilly can make it to the altar, he and his young colleague, Barry Laverty, M.B., must deal with the usual round of eccentric patients―and crises both large and small.
Being a G.P. in a place like Ballybucklebo often can mean more than simply splinting broken bones and tending to aches and pains. It can also mean helping a struggling young couple acquire their first home, clearing the name of a cat accused of preying on a neighbor's prize pigeons, and encouraging a bright working-class girl who dreams of someday becoming a doctor herself. And, if you're Barry Laverty, still smarting from a painful breakup, there might even be a chance for a new romance with a lovely schoolteacher, if her passionate political convictions don't get in the way.
Much has changed in Ballybucklebo, and bigger changes are in store, but the lives and practices of these Irish country doctors remain as captivating and irresistible as ever.

From Booklist In the summer of 1965, doctors O’Reilly and Laverty can be found working comfortably alongside each other in idyllic Ballybucklebo, Ireland. Sharing a general practice in the small village means lots of aches and pains and the occasional emergency, but there always seems to be time for a predinner Jameson. When their loyal housekeeper is suddenly sent to the hospital with a mysterious pain, the peace at their place is interrupted by visiting hours, burnt dinners, rowdy pets, temporary help, burgeoning romance, wedding plans, and a possible career change. In the latest installment in the Irish Country series, Taylor continues the adventures of the much-loved doctors and the Ballybucklebo villagers, complete with a glossary of authentic Irish slang. While longtime lovers of the series will enjoy this episode, new readers might want to start with an earlier entry. Fans of Frank Delaney, Jan Karon, and Gail Fraser will appreciate Taylor’s humorous, dialect-tinged take on small-town drama. A spirited and compassionate story filled with pastoral Irish imagery, cheerful village life, and heartwarming romance. --Stephanie Turza

One of my favorite series, this book included By Holly This is the seventh book in the Irish Country series:1) An Irish Country Doctor2) An Irish Country Village (Irish Country Books)3) An Irish Country Christmas4) An Irish Country Girl: A Novel (Irish Country Books)5) An Irish Country Courtship: A Novel (Irish Country Books)6) A Dublin Student Doctor: An Irish Country Novel (Irish Country Books)7) An Irish Country Wedding (Irish Country Books)I was first introduced to the series in November of 2008 when I picked up "Irish Country Christmas" and the love affair began. It was a book I enjoyed from beginning to end so I went back and read the first two novels and then impatiently waited every year for the next one to be published. The latest book revolves around Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly as he is preparing to marry for the second time as well as around Dr. Barry Laverty as he prepares to leave Ballybucklebo to further his medical training. These are the two country doctors that have provided the backbone of these stories over the years. The story is set back in the quaint rural Irish village of Ballybucklebo so our wonderful cast of characters including Julie and Donal, Kinky Kincaid, and Lord John MacNeill are all there (to name just a few).I feel like I am repeating myself each time I write a review for these books, but I must say again that from the first novel through this latest one, they have all been an absolute joy to read. I you have never read any of these, it would be possible to pick this one up and begin here but to have the full experience and get the most out of them, I would recommend going back and start from the beginning. These are not action-packed, adventure books but keep me glued to the page from beginning to end due to the incredible writing, the settings that are perfectly described, and stories that keep me fascinated. On a side note, I mentioned I was reading this book to a friend of mine who is also a reader but pretty much only reads books in the mystery genre. Imagine my surprise when she immediately responded with how much she loves these books and was so happy to find out another one had been published. For someone who largely limits herself to mysteries with only occasional forays into other genres, that was high praise indeed.Bottom line: These are some of the most enjoyable books I have ever read and each one (including this one) is an absolute gem. I savor it, try to draw my reading out over time, and it is always with sadness that I close the book after the final page. I am glad he doesn't write them any faster since it takes time to write this well, but I still long for the next fall when I get to go back and rejoin the characters of Ballybucklebo.

I truly like his style of writing and getting to know all the people of Ballybucklebo. They are a nice but eccentric bunchThese novels are refreshing and uplifting.

A Great Book, A Great Series By Stuart S Meighan Patrick Taylor's "Irish Country" sreies, including this, his most recent, hark back to a simpler time. The character development throughout the series is consistantly excellent. There are a lot of plot twists and turns. Its all a bit pollyanna, with good outsmarting evil at every corner. Sometimes I want that comfort, especially when life is challenging and complex. Taylor weaves a world that forms a gentle retreat at such times.I suggest that you begin the series at the begining and read the books in sequence. I think "An Irish Country Doctor" is book 1.
