February 1958. The Worley's, a family of four, are on the way down to Florida. They're moving there in a last-ditch effort to try to save the dysfunctional parents' all-but-shattered marriage. But the two small sons in the back seat have their doubts. They've seen Walter and Wanda fight too many times. They know all too well that when they really got going, they could make Stanley and Stella Kowalski look like June and Ward Cleaver. And being true to form, they start fighting again shortly after leaving their New York apartment.

For almost the entire two-day drive to Florida, young Tommy and Theodore can only sit there brokenhearted as their parents bombard each other with a litany of insults, threats, and expletives. But, cruel as spouses can sometimes be, it doesn't always mean that they don't love each other. There still could be hope for the Worleys.

A Powerful Short Story By Ann Swinfen Warring parents with two young sons set off to drive down the east coast of America from New York to Florida, in the hope of leaving their unhappy past behind. Told through the eyes of the anxious younger boy, the story of their journey veers from excitement to disaster and back again. Winton perfectly catches the child's half-understanding of what is happening, a mixture of bafflement and wisdom beyond his years.

Timeless Trip with Mom and Dad By G.Yellen This short tale of a family on the verge of implosion reads like a Baby Boomer's youthful memoir, but the family dynamics portrayed are absolutely timeless. Two young brothers pile into a car with their warring parents on a road trip to Florida in search of a happier future. In this brief, smooth read, we root for them, and for a happy ending.

Alright.... let's have a look.... and enjoy. This story about a married couple on the brink of divorce with two sons is written from the point of view of one of the boys. The year is 1958 and they travel by car to Florida in a desparate move to - maybe - make things work at last. It is wonderful how the author captures the voice of the boy, often wise beyond his age and looking very closely at his parents and then again a child, happy about small things. And in the end.... there might be some hope.
